Industry-leading network security products provider, Barracuda moves to new office to a more stimulating, single space.

Barracuda Office Principles

Soundtect worked with Office Principles to assist with the acoustic treatment in this stunning newly designed space. Freestyle baffles were introduced as a ceiling application to add vibrancy and a much needed level of sound absorption.

Background

Industry-leading network security products provider, Barracuda wanted to move from its offices, split over two floors in Basingstoke, to a more stimulating, single space.

The tech specialist was keen to amplify the ethos and culture of the company, while uniting the team and allowing all employees to work together in an open, shared environment.

Office Principles provided Barracuda with a series of potential designs and test fits that helped it to narrow its search and choose the White Building as its destination.

The optimum premises to fulfil Barracuda’s vision as a young, forward-thinking brand, the White Building has exposed services and floor to ceiling glazing throughout, supporting its positioning as a landmark, contemporary commercial address.

Overview

A complete CAT B fit out, work included the remodelling and installation of M&E services, the creation of a selection of large and small meeting rooms, a kitchen area, break out areas and a townhall presentation space with tiered seating.

A Graffiti wall was included as an expression of Barracuda’s vision and values with further solution-based design features throughout the centralised area complementing the architecture of the building and the spirit of the White Building, with its contemporary and informal appeal.

Clever space planning enabled a visual connection to be maintained throughout the open plan.

Project completion

One of the key aims of the project was to maximise the unusual T shape space without wasting any of the stand out architectural features. The recessed ceiling, with its concrete downstands, presented a particular challenge as it inhibited the placing of partitioning, calling on the team’s skills and experience to make it work without compromising space.

A consultative approach was taken to ensure that the initial brief was met while delivering the best design.

Careful use of space was engaged to keep areas open while avoiding a standard call centre look and reflecting the White Building’s overall modern and vibrant draw.

“We were keen to provide a design that reflected the look and feel of the building itself, taking the client on a journey away from corporate-led design to the bespoke and the personal, while maintaining a feeling of openness and connectivity.”

Tom Parsons, Projects Director, Office Principles

“Office Principles collaborated with us to create a great layout and use of space, demonstrating a real understanding of our needs and translating this into the brief. The build team helped through issues as they surfaced and completed with minimal interruption, despite the challenges presented by lockdown and the Covid situation.”
